I am an Associate Professor of Macroeconomics and Advanced Economic Theory in the School of Economics at Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV), Caracas, Venezuela. I am also associated with the Economic Research Unit at Mercantil Servicios Financieros in Venezuela. I hold a degree in economics from UCV, a Master Degree in Economics at Roosevelt University (in Chicago), and a Ph.D. in economics at University of East London (in England). In year 2002 I was named “Andrés Bello Fellow” at The University of Oxford and in year 2007 I became a permanent visiting professor at FLACSO, Ecuador. In my career as an economist I served as a Senior Analyst at the Economic Research Office for the Venezuelan Congress (1998-1999). I have also served over the years as a consultant for several public offices in Venezuela.
Among the BOOKS I have published: Stabilization and Growth in Latin America:
A Critique and Reconstruction from Post Keynesian and Structuralism Perspectives. Palgrave Global Publishing Press, New York. 2001; Estrategias Nacionales de Desarrollo (with Juan Ponce), PNUD and FLACSO, Quito, 2008;
Quiebras Bancarias y Crisis Financieras en Venezuela (with Raúl González), Banco Central de Venezuela, Caracas, 1999; and
Contribuciones al Análisis de la Inflación: Anotaciones para el caso Venezolano, Editor, Ediciones EVE-FACES, Caracas, 1997. Recent publications include articles in a variety of academic journals including
Cambridge Journal of Economics, Development and Change, Journal of Economic Studies, Journal of Post Keynesian Economics, Developing Economies, Review of Political Economy, Metroeconomica, Economic Letters, Economia e Sociedade, Revista de Análisis Económico, and Investigación Económica.
I do theoretical and empirical research in the areas of development macroeconomics, macroeconomics and finance and public policy with an emphasis on issues related to the Venezuelan economy. In terms of economic paradigms and preferences I strongly support and do work on Post-Keynesian and Structuralist economics. This is the result of being utterly dissatisfied with how mainstream neoclassical economics addresses questions of stabilization, growth and development. Almost all my working papers, technical notes and early versions of published papers are available through this page in Adobe Acrobat format (PDF). Most of them are in Spanish but you may find some others in English. You may download a free Acrobat reader from
